Being the owner of a local network means I have to spend a lot of time monitoring local news and current goings on. It’s because of this that every now and again I come across something that I feel deserves to be shared to the wider local community.

This is exactly what this post is about.

I’ve recently noticed a few people sharing some quite amazing works of art on Facebook. After asking around I found out that these works are the creations of Zane Pritchard, and having the platform we do to share things like this, we have decided to publish this feature about him and his works.

Anyone interested in any work from Zane can contact him on the following:

Here’s a gallery of his INCREDIBLE work…

As well as showing off his fine work, we also asked Zane a few questions about himself to find out more about his talents.

Here’s what he had to say (questions in bold, answers in italic)…

My name is Zane Pritchard, I paint portraits and pet portraits using oils.

How did you find out you had a talent for portraits?

It’s hard to say really. I started painting portraits when I was studying A Level art at 6th form and continued to paint portraits during my time at South Devon College, however my portraits back then were very poor. They rarely looked like the subject they were meant to and my proportions were often all out of whack.

It wasn’t until I started at Plymouth University were my paintings started to really improve.

I think that came with growing up and taking a more patient, mature approach to my paintings.

How long have you been doing it for?

Ever since I can remember I was always drawing and doodling, just like every kid does really but I continued that into my teenage years.

The portrait painting started in about 2009 or 2010 so about 10 years now.

In what way did you perfect your skills?

Practice, practice, practice.

It takes years of trial and error for an artist to find their style and technique. Still to this day I’m always learning new things about painting and different methods of painting.

When I was at Plymouth there was a painting technician there called Martin, he is an absolute wizard when it comes to painting and he taught me some invaluable lessons.

I also find it helpful sometimes to watch tutorial videos on Youtube.

Even if it’s an ‘oil painting tutorial for beginners’ it can help with avoiding complacency and you may still pick up something that you’ve never been aware of.

What is your proudest piece?

I don’t think I can pinpoint just one.

I’m extremely proud of each painting in my Iconic series which include portraits of Salvador Dali, Marilyn Monroe and Eminem. I’ve been itching to add to this series but I’ve had too many commissions.

At Christmas I did a Ragnar Lothbrok portrait for someone local and that was excellent, I feel I captured the skin tones and character of the subject really well.

I did a horse portrait for someone in October, it was the first horse painting I’ve ever had to do and it came out really, really well, and that’s what kicked off a huge demand for pet portraits so I’m very proud of that one.

I was commissioned to do a Joker piece for a local gym owner, I’m really proud of that one as it came out exactly how I envisioned and then some.

It’s an on the fence answer but I’m proud of all my paintings, more so in the last year or so as it’s clear to me and others that my work has really improved and with each painting I continue to develop as an artist.

What kind of works do you offer to local people?

Anything they require really. I can do family portraits, pet portraits, famous faces, abstract pieces. Anything and everything.
