As Christmas gets closer, so does the stress of buying presents, finding the right outfit for our staff Christmas parties, and deciding who we’re going to be spending Christmas day with. There can be so many decisions to make that we can sometimes forget that some people don’t have anyone to spend their Christmas with.

Two local Torbay women have put together a fundraiser this year to make sure elderly people in Torbay (who would otherwise be alone) can enjoy Christmas dinner and a party on Christmas Day this year. It’s a lovely gesture for people who might have family who are too far away to travel to, or might not have anybody at all.

Lime Tree Paignton

Nicole Gallagher and Sian Allen, both of Paignton, have organised a fundraiser on December 15th at the Lime Tree in Paignton. They are looking to raise £1,500, which will go towards a three course meal, a Christmas present, entertainment and money behind the bar to make it an amazing Christmas for 50 local elderly people.

Tickets to the fundraiser are £5 each, with all the money going towards the fund.

There is also a raffle where people can win prizes that have been generously donated by local businesses, including a holiday at a stately home in Edinurgh worth £2,000 (see below for a list of prizes). Tickets are £5 a strip, and are available at the Lime Tree and from Nicole or Sian.

Sian and Nicole, who set up this event when they saw a place in Bromley holding a similar event, have been overwhelmed by the kindness and generosity of local people. When Torbay pulls together for a good cause, amazing things can happen!

If you would like to help out or volunteer your services for Christmas day, get in touch with Sian to see how you can help. They are still looking for drivers to pick up and drop off people from the meal.

If you can’t attend the event for some reason but would like to help out, you can donate to their Go Fund Me page here.

There are already a number of amazing prizes that have been donated generously from some of Torbay’s local businesses (get in touch with Sian or Nicole if you’d like to donate a prize.)
