Ivor has been running ID Improvements for the past 12 years.
I recently asked Ivor a few questions about his business. Here’s what he had to say…
How did you get into starting the business?
I worked for a building company and worked my way up from a labourer to a foreman of the 3rd biggest building company in Devon (D.R Jones). They put me through my courses (NVQ 1,2,3 in carpentry, Part P in plumbing and electrics and a safety floor laying course Altro and Polysafe)
What is the most rewarding part of running your own business?
Knowing what I was to what I have become from grit and determination.
What has been the most difficult part of it?
Everything to be honest. I’ve slogged my guts out to get where I’ve got. I’ve had my van broken in to all my tools robbed, house broken into and even a piece of vinyl flooring robbed but I pushed through and am now going good.
Any plans to expand in the future?
Have 10 guys working for me and feel I have a good team at me but never say never.
Any advice to young people in the area looking to start a business?
Do it and don’t look back. It will be hard believe me but it’s worth it in the end
What’s your favourite thing about Torquay?
I love Torquay been here my whole life I don’t have a favourite thing.
Thanks Ivor for your answers and congratulations with all you’ve achieved so far.
