Harbour Hotels of Christchurch, Dorset, specialise in world-class prestigious waterfront hotels and intend to add the Newly proposed Harbour Hotel to their impressive collection of 14 Hotels in beautiful places all in the South of England. They currently have hotels in some amazing places such as St Ives, Salcombe, Brighton and Bristol, so it’s very pleasing to hear that they want to invest in Torquay.
The new hotel has been approved by the Council and the empty beautiful Pavillion which is a Grade ll listed will undergo a major facelift at a cost of £2.5 million and will become the Impressive reception of the Hotel with an indulgent spa (HarSPA) restaurant and function room all linked by a bedroom bridge for the residents
The total cost of this project will be £32 million but it will be a great boost for our tourism and will create many new jobs.
The development will consist of a 60 bed 5 storey Hotel and an 11 storey 43 luxury residential apartment block. There will be 289 car parking spaces under the building with another 74 spaces on the Cary Green opposite the pavillion.
Sadly, a new home will have to be found for the sculpture of our Torquay hero Agatha Christie. There were 2000 objections and 500 letters to the development saying in would destroy the area, but we can’t see how this will happen. We’re looking forward to having a nice glass of wine once the development is complete.
