A new month brings in a new era for Torquay Online. We’ve been running our business man and woman of the month awards for over a year now. However, things evolve, and now, Torquay Online has over 100 members, there just aren’t enough months to fit them all in. So, this is the first official Torquay Online Business Woman of the Week Award.
Our first business woman of the week is Becky West. Becky has been running Ethereal Nails (Facebook page) for just over a year. I recently asked Becky a few questions related to her business.
Here’s what she had to say….
How did you get into starting the business?
Good changes in my personal life brought me to Brixham about a year ago. I qualified as a nail technician in November 2016 and had been working in a salon. I decided I’d like to set up on my own at home to give me the flexibility of working around my family and I liked the idea of working for myself!
What is the most rewarding part of running your own business?
I love what I do and enjoy creating beautiful designs for my clients. Seeing them go away with a smile on their face is absolutely the best thing.
What has been the most difficult part of it?
Building a client base! The first few months were pretty quiet. I rely a lot on Facebook and word of mouth. But I’m happy to say that both seem to be working and my client base is growing nicely.
Any plans to expand in the future?
At the moment I am happy with my home salon set up. However I would love to think that at some point in the future I’d be in the position to have my own salon.
Any advice to young people in the area looking to start a business?
Follow your dreams and don’t be afraid to try.
What’s your favourite thing about Torbay?
Being by the sea and the friendly atmosphere. I have been welcomed here with open arms which is lovely.
