Happy Halloween weekend to everyone in Torbay. We hope you’re all enjoying the weekend whether you’re trick or treating with the kids, going out on the town or staying in!
As it’s the end of the month, it’s time to celebrate one man and one woman involved in local business in the Torbay area.
First up is our business woman of the month, and a massive congratulations to Debbie Durbaca, founder of Scruffs Torbay (website – https://www.scruffstorbay.co.uk), (Facebook – https://www.facebook.com/scruffstorbay)
Scruff’s Torbay can be found at 2 Ellacombe Road, Torquay, TQ1 3AT.
Scruffs has been running for over 7 years. It was originally ran from Maidenhead, Berkshire but was recently moved to Torquay and they opened their shop in September. In Debbie’s own words…
“Scruffs Torbay is a small family business offering one to one Groom standard and pet grooms. We use ultrasound teeth cleaning. We offer puppy introductions
We have treatments such as Cani tab for dry irritated skin conditions.
Blueberry facials which help with tear staining and brightens the coat.
100% natural wild wash shampoo.
A small relaxing environment in our shop.”
I recently asked Debbie a few questions about her business… Here’s what she had to say.
What gave you the idea for starting your business?
I’ve always taken my dog to the groomers and loved how she looked. I went for a days trial in London and signed straight up for the course.
whats’s the most rewarding part of running your business?
Building my own customer base and working closely to achieve the best results for them and their dogs.
What’s the most challenging part?
The extras; figures, social media and content planning.
Any plans to expand?
Possibly if the shop is successful and busy enough.
What would be your advice to a young person starting a local business?
When on your work experience ask as many questions as possible and start with apprenticeship.
What’s your favourite thing about Torbay?
The south west coastal path, fresh air and sea views
Thank you so much Debbie for taking the time to answer our questions, all congratulations for all you’ve achieved so far!
