We’ve chosen February’s business woman of the month as we’ve been working closely with her and can see how hard she works and how much effort she puts into making her business a succes.
February 2019’s business woman of the month is Joanne Gunning.
Joanne runs Move Southwest which is a removals company in Torquay. They cover the entire South West doing anything from light local deliveries to full house moves around the UK and even Europe.

I asked Joanne a few questions about her business and how she came about setting it up. Here’s what she said…
How did you get into starting the business?
I ran a large coach company in Ireland many years ago so transport has always been in my blood ever since. We had been doing small removals for years and saw a gap in the market for affordable large house moves.
We have been doing removals for years and Move Southwest has been running for over a year now going from strength to strength
What is the most rewarding part of running your own business?
The whole process is rewarding, from meeting the customer initially and getting to know their requirements, to offering them advice and often calming them down when their house sale isn’t going to plan!
We have sold a few properties ourselves so I am very aware of the things that can hold up a sale and I am there to reassure the customer. There is no better feeling than to see the customer in their new property on moving day.
My guys go the extra mile to ensure the customer gets everything they want on moving day.
When you run your own business you know that you are giving 100% and the customer always has the same contact and is not being passed to a different contact everytime.
What has been the most difficult part of it?
Solictors! Dates changing at the last moment, but thankfully we are flexible and there to facilitate any last minute changes.
Any plans to expand in the future?
Yes we are expanding our fleet again this year as the business grows.
Any advice to young people in the area looking to start a business?
Do your homework first and try and find a gap in the market. Expand your business as your business grows and not beforehand. Reputation is everything so you need to be 100% committed.
What’s your favourite thing about Torbay?
I love everything about Torbay! The sun, the beaches, the pace of life. It’s a great place to live & work.
