I asked Shane a few questions about his busniess so hopefully it’s helpful to anyone who’s looking to start a business in the area.
How did you start S&S Cleaning Services?
I worked for another company for 8 years and was slowly was doing all the work myself. I ended up buying a part from them and then built it up over the years. Because I know quite a lot of people, that helped me get into places and start building the busines up.
I’ve been working in the industry for 12 years now.
How many people do you employ?
I have people who can help out with larger jobs but I try to manage all the work myself. This ensures that the work will always be done to a high standard.
What are your plans for the future?
In the future we’re going to concentrate on taking bigger jobs and services. We now have the best industrial equipment which covers every type of cleaning.
What is the hardest part of running your own business?
The long days probably. I start as early as 4am and finish late. I also have a family and young kids so it’s non-stop all the time.
Any advice to someone in Torbay looking to get into business?
The best advice would be to make sure you have the work in place. There are so many people experienced people in the area doing the same thing so it might be hard finding the work at first.
