*For anyone with an upcoming event who is looking for a catering service, get in touch with LG Palk Hog Roast & Event Catering. They are a fantastic local business with an excellent reputation for service and quality, and are highly recommended by their previous customers. I’ve added some of their images to this post but take a look at their Facebook page to see more.*

It’s that time again where we celebrate one of the bay’s biggest business success stories. This award celebrates local people who have done something special in business, and this month’s award is no exception.

This month’s award goes to a person who has achieved a great deal of success in the local catering industry in recent years.

Kevin Bailey has worked for his family’s business, LG Palk Butchers, since he was 13. They are a local butchery with an excellent reputation in the area and loyal customer base. In 2015, they decided to offer their produce as an event catering service, and they haven’t looked back. I recently interviewed Kevin who explains the business in more detail.

Can you explain in your own words about what you do?

We (LG Palk) are a family run Butchery that pride ourselves on serving the highest quality of traditional and modern meats, poultry and game, along with the personal touch that we offer our customers.

We have a fantastic relationship with many of the finest establishments within the local area and we can’t thank our locals enough for the support they give our business.

LG Palk’s work team has over 100 years combined experience, which is something we are so proud of. Using all of this knowledge we decided to branch out and start offering our produce as an event catering service.

We started LG Palk, Hog Roast & Event Catering in 2015 and we can honestly say it’s the best thing we have ever done.

We cannot believe how far this business has gone in just 3 years. We have over 60 events booked in so far for 2018 and it’s all down to the amazing feedback and recommendations from our lovely customers. We cater for all events, no matter how big or small, your guests will be in a meaty heaven.

We currently offer the following services:

Hog Roast with all the trimmings

“Posh Kebabs” lamb roast served in a soft taco with salad and mint yoghurt dressing

Personalised gourmet bbq

What gave you the inspiration to start the catering business?

Our customers were the inspiration behind the event catering as we would regularly have people coming in and asking if we could do this. The two businesses work incredibly well together. Let’s be honest nobody can carve a meat quite like a butcher can!

How long have you been doing this for?

I’ve been working at my dads Butchers since I was 13 years old, this is actually the only job I’ve ever had. As soon as I finished school I went to college for 3 years to train to be a butcher, but if I’m honest my dad has taught me all I know. We have been doing the hog roast for 3 years now.

What’s the most difficult part of running the business?

TIME, there is not enough hours in the day. Other than that I love what I do.

How many people do you employ?

We have 6 people but this varies depending on the time of year.

Any plans for the future?

We have a few things up our sleeve.

Any advice to people looking to start their own business?

Go for it, it was the best thing we have ever done. Life is for living not wondering what if!

Some good advice there for anyone who has an idea to start their own business.

Thanks a lot to Kevin for taking the time to answer my questions, and well done on the success of the business so far!
