It’s the start of a new month which means it’s time to celebrate some of the best business talents in Torbay again. So far the majority of our busniess people of the month started their own business, however this month is slightly different. It’s just as much of a challenge to take over an established business and carry on with it’s success.
November’s business man of the month is Darren Chamberlain. Darren is the managing director of Garage Doors South West Ltd. They supply and install garage doors across the entire region, and they have been running successfully since 1982. The business was started by Darren’s father and has been in the family ever since. Darren joined the business in 1990 and took over fully in 2010 (although his dad has come out of retirement six times since).
Garage Doors South West employ four installation engineers and two people in the office. They are a truly family run business, with four out of their six employees (and Darren) all being family members.
Darren says that the most rewarding part of running the business is dealing with the public on a daily basis knowing that you are improving their homes, and dealing with suppliers is the biggest challenge.
Darren is looking to continue growing the business and to always ensure that they are on hand for their customers (22 5* reviews on Facebook shows that they are doing a good job of that.)
In Darren’s own words, here’s his advice to anyone looking to start their own business.
“Enjoy it. There are challenges, but overcoming those challenges dictates how well you overcome problems. Always put the customer first!”
