In Scott’s own words…
“ProSecure Locksmiths is a 24 hour locksmithing business that’s based in Torquay and also covers the wider South Devon area. We cover all types of security issues from lost keys and lockouts to full home security upgrades and everything in between. We specialise in non-destructive entry and never charge a call out fee.”
I recently asked Scott a few questions about his business. Here’s the interview in full.
How did Pro Secure Locksmiths come about?
I started in this trade many years ago as an apprentice and have since worked for various companies along the way.
I’m now lucky enough to run my own business.
Although I’ve been a locksmith for over 18 years I have only recently started my own business.
I have just completed my first year of trading and couldn’t be happier.
I love running my own business and being my own boss.
What’s the most rewarding thing about running your own business?
The most rewarding part of running your own business is seeing the results and benefits of all the hard work you put in.
What’s the most challenging thing?
Running your own business can be difficult – you have to remain highly motivated and positive.
As you are the boss, it’s all too easy to become complacent and a bit lazy.
Always try to remain focused, set targets to aim for and constantly monitor your progress.
Any plans to expand in the future?
I’m always looking to the future and what’s next.
I like to think I’m quite ambitious so hopefully the end result will be a large business operation with multiple vans on the road.
Do you have any tips for someone looking to go into the trade?
If you’re looking to start out as a locksmith, I would recommend trying to secure an apprenticeship with a reputable firm.
If this isn’t an option then do some research and choose a training course that has good feedback from industry governing bodies.
Just bear in mind it doesn’t end there, you will also need a van, tools, stock and advertising, which can be very costly.
What is your favourite thing about Torbay?
I was born and bred in Torquay and still live locally.
The best thing about living here is being so close to the sea. Sometimes I feel people just don’t appreciate how nice our beautiful town is.
