Following on from our announcement of business woman of the month on Friday, today is where we give our men’s award. As always, there is plenty of competition so whoever wins this award truly deserves it.
This month’s winner is Ian MacDonald, owner of Riviera Electrical. As you can see from their Facebook page, they have 34 5* reviews which shows Ian does a great job serving customers in the area. Ian is the first electrician in Torbay to win this award, so a big congratulations to him.
(contact Riviera Electrical on 01803 678101 for all your electrical needs in the area.)
Ian’s been an electrician since he left school and has a lot of experience in the trade, so the award this month is well deserved.

As with all of our business people of the month, I asked Ian a few questions about his business, and hopefully you’ll find some of his answers helpful!
How did you get into doing what you do?
After doing my apprenticeship I worked for various companyies over the years and an employee and subcontractor so it was a natural progression to run my own firm.
What do you enjoy the most about what you do?
Working for myself, being my own boss and making sure my customers are electrically safe in there homes and workplace.
What do you enjoy the least about what you do?
The hours needed to run, plan and quote jobs can take its toll sometimes.
What are your plans for 2019?
As the new electrical regulations have come into force, I will be getting to grips with them and implementing them through out all my installations in 2019 and beyond.
What advice would you give to someone looking to go into the same profession?
Do an apprenticeship or adult learning at college. Avoid 4/5 week “wonder courses” as they’re not work the money or your time. Listen and learn! I still learn everyday even though I’ve been doing this a long time.
Thanks to Ian and Riviera Electrical for taking the time to answer our questions. Do you know anyone local who is smashing it in business? Drop us an email and let us know about it.
